Research Director, Business Intelligence Research, Aberdeen Group

David Hatch

Area of Focus

David Hatch focuses on BI's role in enabling the delivery of actionable information to the enterprise. This encompasses both traditional and emerging methods (client/server, web applications, SOA-enabled applications, On-Demand via SaaS, Hosting/ASP, and appliances). Mr. Hatch also has expertise in the application of BI within specific vertical market environments including healthcare, supply chain, manufacturing, publishing, agriculture, wholesale/distribution, and insurance.

Current Research

Organizations are facing pressure to deliver actionable information to the enterprise that is timely and effective toward meeting business goals. This requires that companies have access to the information, the ability to combine, aggregate and integrate the information, and then deliver it to people when, where and how they need it. The pressure is coming from both internal and external stakeholders (such as customers, suppliers and business partners).

The IT skill sets that are required to meet this demand are in limited supply. This has resulted in projects that are delayed, over-budget, and are often lacking the data and information necessary to meet business goals. Best in Class companies are defined as those who are able to deliver actionable information on-budget and on-time that meet the needs of all types of users across the enterprise. This research will examine the delivery of actionable business information, and how companies are addressing the shortage of IT skill sets. The study will measure the effectiveness of strategies and tactics that best in class organizations are employing to overcome this challenge in delivering actionable information to the enterprise.

Experience

David is a member of HIMSS (Health Information Management System Society), and has been a contributor to articles and papers that have appeared in several publications, including DMReview, Health Data Management, Health Management Technology, and others. Prior to joining Aberdeen, David was Vice President, Marketing for Dimensional Insight; Manager, CurrentChannel for CurrentAnalysis, Inc.; Director of Marketing, North America, for Ovum; and Director of Publications for Giga Information Group.
